High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The early 1990s were particularly difficult for Group Lotus. The repercussions of global recession were severe for sports car manufacturers. During 1992 the Lotus dealer franchise network contracted from 29 to 19 outlets as production of the long running Excel and recently relaunched Elan M100 ended. Furthermore by August 1993 General Motors had disposed of the company. In addition although Team Lotus had remained independent from Group Lotus since 1954 its fortunes in Formula one would mirror those of the production side. With its bankruptcy in 1994 Lotus were left without any motorsport programme and production exclusively concentrated with the Esprit. It was apparent that single model production could not be sustained indefinitely. Coinciding with the decline in Lotus s fortunes were the performances of the Type 105 and 106 (X180R) cars in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Escort World Challenge between 1991 and 1992. These performances were an invaluable tool for Lotus s North American Marketing.

Alboreto competed in Formula One from 1981 until 1994, racing for a number of teams, most notably the Ferrari factory team. Motorsport in Australia

Motorsport is a popular spectator sport in Australia, although there are relatively few competitors compared to other sports due to the high costs of competing. The most widely watched motorsport is V8 Supercars, especially at the Bathurst 1000. Other classes in Australia include Formula 3 and Formula Ford (open wheel racing), Superbikes, and touring cars. Since 1985, Australia has hosted a round of the Formula One World Championship. For the first 10 years, the Australian Grand Prix was held in Adelaide as the last round of the championship. Adelaide played host to several title deciders, for example, the 1986 title, where Alain Prost successfully defended his championship after Nigel Mansell's left rear tyre exploded, the 1994 title was also decided in questionable circumstances, after Michael Schumacher collided with his rival Damon Hill to win the title by a single point. Melbourne replaced Adelaide as host from 1996 onwards. Two Australians have won the World Driver's Championship: Jack Brabham, who won the title on three occasions, and Alan Jones, who won in 1980. Mark Webber is currently the only Australian Formula One driver.

Alfa Romeo 155/156/147 Competition Touring Cars

After saving Alfa Romeo from oblivion in 1987, it took Fiat nearly five years to debut the first new Alfa produced under its control. This is the story of how the competition versions of the 155/156/147 family of cars were developed and subsequently raced to many championship titles and race wins. Alfa Romeo's 155 saloon was a comprehensively successful racing touring car that won the German and world-wide DTM Championship, and later ITC races. The model also took on the role of representing the company in national touring car championships throughout the world, most notably winning the British Touring Car Championship in 1994. The 156 was Alfa's successor to the 155 and was also raced with much success. This book follows the development and competition history of this model too, along with its sibling, the 147. Together, these models kept the Alfa Romeo name at the pinnacle of motor sport for many years, from 1992 to 2006, and will become future motorsport classics.
